Adding extra protein to your meals may be the answer to
successful weight
loss. It used to be low carbohydrate diets that was the answer for your
weight loss needs, but that trend fell quickly off the radar screen. Now as
new
research indicates supplementing each meal with high quality protein is
robust. Protein's hunger-satisfying properties allows you to
eat fewer
calories from fat and carbohydrates and quickens the weight loss process.

Studies on protein

Scientists at Aberdeen's Rowett Research Institute have shown that a high
protein, low carbohydrate diet is most effective at reducing hunger and
promoting weight loss, at least in the short term.

In the July 2008 issue of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
researchers concluded that a 15 percent increase in dietary protein, with a
constant carbohydrate intake, can result in a significantly reduce weight
loss. Another
study showed in the Journal of Nutrition, a high protein diet
along with an exercise program enhanced weight and fat loss.

Eating a higher protein diet at mealtime and snacks can help you better
control your appetite and weight according to the scientific literature.

The Best Protein Sources

If you want to increase the protein in your diet, make sure you consume
foods that are high quality proteins. Protein usually comes with fat so be
careful to choose protein sources that are as low in fat as possible. And
keep in mind, you should also be eating healthy carbs, vegetables, and
healthy fats. To be effective weight loss diets need to include regular
physical activity to be incorporated in your daily lifestyle.
